A Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration with ties to Superior is celebrating her Diamond Jubilee, marking 60 years of vowed religious life.
Sister Helen (Mary Leonard) Castner entered St. Rose Convent in La Crosse, Wis., from Loyal, Wis. For 50 years, she ministered in Wisconsin as a primary school teacher in Marathon, Athens, Genoa, Sparta, Ashland, Wausau, Superior and Bloomer in Wisconsin and Muscatine, Iowa. Sister Helen received a Bachelor of Science in education with a minor in English from Viterbo College, now known as Viterbo University, in La Crosse. At St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wis., she took numerous theology classes.
While serving as a teacher, she also assisted with various duties throughout the parishes in which she served.
In 2003, Sister Helen retired to St. Rose Convent where she continues to minister as a volunteer and in prayer.
A jubilee celebration was held at St. Rose Convent on April 19.
