More than $25,000 will be on the line for the late model drivers Sunday, as AMSOIL Speedway in Superior hosts the AMSOIL Twin Ports 25s.
The race, previously contested at the Proctor Speedway, makes its second consecutive appearance at the AMSOIL Speedway after one of its most successful nights ever last year.
The twin 25-lap late model features were won in 2012 by Solon Springs’ Brady Smith and John Kaanta of Elk Mound, Wis. In the second race, Kaanta came from a 16th starting position to win the main event.
Last year, 14 drivers went home earning at least $1,000, while the non-qualifiers earned at least $300 just for attempting to qualify for the main events.
The twin feature races with the balanced payoff gives competitors two chances to succeed and also provides more race entertainment for the spectators.
Another unique aspect of the program has the winner of the first 25-lap event make a draw to determine how many finishers will be inverted for the start of the second race. Thus, the winner of the first race can start no better than 10th in the second race, making for more intense racing during the second feature.
Also on the racing program Sunday will be the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds and the Pure Stocks. Hot laps start at 5 p.m. with racing to follow at 5:30 p.m.
