An afternoon fire caused an estimated $65,000 in damage to a residence in Superior’s Allouez neighborhood. But thanks to two pets, everyone got out of the house safely. The fire at 211 39th Ave. E. was reported shortly after 2 p.m. today, according to Battalion Chief Vern Johnson with the Superior Fire Department. One occupant was home at the time, but the dogs woke him up.
“He was able to get out thanks to the dog,” Johnson said.
The blaze caused an estimated $50,000 damage to the structure and $15,000 damage to its contents. The home is uninhabitable, Johnson said, but the residents have family in the area they plan to stay with. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
