Two killed, two seriously injured in Washburn County crash
Two people were killed and two injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash early Sunday in Washburn County.
The crash on County Highway A in the town of Stone Lake was reported at about 5:45 a.m., the Washburn County Sheriff's Office said, and may have occurred several hours earlier. A preliminary investigation indicates that a 2005 Ford Mustang belonging to Edward Depies, 25, of Sarona was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when it left the road and rolled several times.
Killed in the crash were Donald Roberts, 20, of Spooner and Molly Undum, 25, of Shell Lake; both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Depies was transported to a hospital in Spooner, then airlifted to a hospital in Eau Claire and later transferred to a hospital in Rochester, Minn., in critical condition.
Timothy Wohlford, 20, of Spooner was airlifted to Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth; his condition was not reported.
The sheriff's office said investigators have not yet verified who was driving, whether alcohol was involved, and whether the occupants of the vehicle were wearing seat belts. The crash is under investigation by the sheriff's office and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
