A new basketball camp will be open to young basketball enthusiasts this summer.
The “Giving Back” Summer Basketball Camp will run July 22-25 at Superior Middle School. The camp is organized by former Superior Spartan and Michigan Tech basketball player Greta Rath (Nelson), who was inducted into the Superior High School Athletic Hall of fame this year with the 1994-95 Superior Senior High School girls basketball team.
The camp is open to boys and girls entering grades 1-6, with a separate girls-only session for girls entering grades 7-8. The camp will encompass everything Rath has learned over the last 18 years of her basketball career as a player and coach.
Each session will utilize a variety of teaching methods, drills and games to teach fundamentals and advanced skills. Rath will be assisted by current and former Superior Spartan basketball players.
Participants will hone their basketball skills, Rath said, but the primary purpose is to provide a great camp experience. Her goal is to provide campers with positive role models who have as much to offer players on the court as they do off the court.
All proceeds from the camp go to the Tim and Nanbeth Nelson Memorial Scholarship Fund offered at Superior High School and the SHS girls basketball program.
Rath says she hopes to continue the basketball camp for many years to come to honor her parents and give back to the community that did so much for her basketball career.
