The Superior Reds emerged victorious in the Superior American Legion Baseball Tournament held in Superior over the weekend.
The Reds defeated Chippewa Falls 8-4 Sunday in the championship game. The Reds also picked up wins over the Superior Blues and the West Duluth Cubs during tournament play on Saturday.
In the championship game, Chippewa Falls took a 3-0 lead after two innings. The Reds answered with a pair of runs in the third and fifth innings and led 4-3 going into the sixth.
Chippewa Falls then tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Superior took the lead for good with four runs in the seventh inning.
The Reds outhit Chippewa Falls 12-5 in the game. Tyler Long led the way, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Taavi Mattson had a pair of hits and two RBIs, Trent Olson went 2-for-2 with an RBI, and Jordan Hughes was 2-for-4.
Collecting one hit apiece for the Reds were Logan Long, Andy Glonek and Spencer Severson, who was 1-for-1 with two RBIs.
Shane Jaquish led Chippewa Falls at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Jake Sperry, Derek Smith and Justin Martell added one hit apiece for Chippewa Falls.
Ryan Myhre earned the pitching win for the Reds in 1 1/3 innings of work. He allowed no hits while striking out two. Mattson gave up two hits and three earned runs while striking out four and walking two in two innings, and Logan Long allowed one earned run on three hits and a walk in 3 2/3 innings.
Zach Pasaro suffered the loss on the mound for Chippewa Falls. He gave up five hits and four earned runs in the final two innings of play.

The Superior Reds opened tournament play with a 13-0 victory over the Superior Blues and a 15-2 victory over the West Duluth Cubs.
The Reds pulled away from the Blues with two big innings, scoring five runs in the second and seven runs in the fourth.
Colton Yepma earned the complete gave win, giving up one hit in fiving innings while walking three and striking out six.
Austin Arnovich and Morgan Moen shared pitching duties for the Blues. They combined to give up 12 hits while walking six and striking out three.
Nik Mattson, Olson, Tyler Long and Hughes all had two hits apiece for the Reds, with Mattson and Olson also picking up two RBIs each. Myhre and Severson both had one hit and two RBIs each; Clayton Yeazle had a hit and an RBI; Andy Glonek added a hit and scored a run; and Bo Higgins had an RBI.
Peyton Flanders had the lone hit for the Blues. He finished the game going 1-for-2.
The Reds also won a five-inning game against West Duluth, 15-2.
Yeazle was the winning pitcher with six strikeouts and three walks in a four-hit, complete game effort.
Higgins finished with a pair of doubles to lead four Reds player with two hits each. Nik Mattson, Yepma and Hughes all had a double and a single. Tyler Long added a triple and Glonek, Taavi Mattson, Erick Anderson and Logan Long all finished with one hit each. Logan Long had three RBIs for the game, while Higgins, Glonek and Yepma each had two.
For the Cubs, Bryce Kucharski and Alex Larson both went 2-for-2. Larson drove in two runs for West Duluth.
The Superior Blues opened play Friday with a 13-12 loss to West Duluth.
Both teams started fast, as West Duluth scored five runs in the first inning, and Superior scored six in the top of the second.
West Duluth led 13-9 after five innings. The Blues threatened with three runs in the sixth to make it 13-12, but Nathan Linder pitched a scoreless seventh inning to preserve the win for West Duluth.
Addison Aparicio was the winning pitcher, giving up 10 hits in four innings while walking three and striking out six. Linder earned the save by striking out six and allowing two earned runs in three innings.
Logan Griffin, Will Mullens and Nate Kunkel shared pitching duties for the Blues. They gave up 10 hits while walking nine and striking out six.
Each team had a home run during the game. Alex Larson homered for West Duluth, and Logan Griffin counted a home run among his three hits for the Blues. Griffin finished with five RBIs for Superior.
Brandon Moe was 4-for-6 with three runs scored for the Blues, and Sean O’Neill hit a pair of doubles to go 2-for-2. Matt Hinaus and Austin Arnovich also had two hits each, with Hinaus driving in two runs and Arnovich driving in one. Kunkel chipped in with one hit, one RBI and two runs scored, and Mullens added an RBI.
