A Superior man accused of groping two women made an initial appearance Friday in Douglas County Circuit Court.
John Christopher Wehmanen, 47, faces two counts of fourth-degree sexual assault stemming from events early Friday morning at an apartment building at 1527 Hammond Ave.
According to the criminal complaint:
Wehmanen grabbed the crotch of a female tenant who had just walked downstairs, telling her “I can do better than your boyfriend.”
She told Superior police the incident lasted about five seconds.
Shortly after, Wehmanen grabbed the crotch of another female tenant who was standing outside the building watching a traffic stop. He finally let go of her after she and her son, who came out of the apartment, yelled at him to stop. They told police a man standing across the street at the time came over and punched Wehmanen as well.
When police responded to the incident at 1:40 a.m., Wehmanen was intoxicated and appeared to be bleeding from his mouth and nose area.
Wehmanen was released on a $750 signature bond. He was ordered to have no contact with the women, and not consume or possess alcoholic beverages. His next court appearance is slated for July 11.
