County seeks help for victims of wildfireResidents affected by the Germann Road wild fire could be eligible for help.
Residents affected by the Germann Road wild fire could be eligible for help.
The Douglas County Board on Thursday approved applying for money through the Community Development Block Grant program to help with rehabilitation and reconstruction.
The fire resulted in 47 structures destroyed, 17 of them homes.
Funding could also be available for businesses affected by the blaze, said Sheldon Johnson of Northwest Regional Planning Commission.
Johnson said the application for funding will be submitted in the next two weeks.
Funding would come from a portion of CDBG funding designated for emergency assistance.
If approved the funding would be available to assist year-round residents with rehabilitation and reconstruction projects.
Funding would not be available for seasonal homes or rental property used from seasonal purposes, Johnson said. He estimated seven households could benefit from the funding, and advised members of the county board to have others who may be eligible for the emergency help.
Anyone affected by the fire who thinks they may be eligible should contact Johnson at 715-635-2197.
