Gloria Gail Cahill (nee Wilson, Sibley), 85, passed away May 12, 2013, at the home of her Tennessee daughter and family. She enjoyed life with a good mind and health until very close to the end of her long life.
Gloria was born in Superior on July 3, 1927, the daughter of Dorothy and George Wilson and enjoyed a wonderful childhood filled with loving family and friends. She graduated from East High School in 1945 and Superior State Teachers College, now UWS, in 1949 with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. After graduation from college, she married James R. Sibley and proceeded to raise a family of two children, Kim A. Sibley and Marilyn J. Sibley Carroll. Gloria taught at the Nelson Dewey. They were members of Trinity United Methodist Church near their home in South Superior. She was active in the Joy Circle and the UMW. Life was good until she was widowed in 1967. True to her spirit, she relied on God and her many friends in her church family, "Club" and neighbors to help her through. Gloria had a heart of gold and continued to be an inspiration. She worked for many years for Montgomery Ward. In 1978 she met and married a wonderful man who changed her life completely. With Fran Cahill came a large and loving family who were there for her throughout her life. Gloria said she was lucky to marry two wonderful men. Fran Cahill didn't like the cold so off they went to Mission, Texas to play and travel every winter and make more wonderful friends. Gloria was widowed again in 1986. Gloria realized that she preferred the warm Texas winters to the cold ones of Northern Wisconsin and continued to live the summer months in her Superior home until last summer when she moved to Kansas to be near to her son Kim. She enjoyed living in her sunny apartment in the small town of Medicine Lodge. When she was unable to safely care for herself, she moved to Clarksville, Tenn. with Marilyn and her husband Ray, their daughter Beth, Ray's father, John and her best friend Dora the Lab.
Gloria is survived by her son Kim A. (Fran) Sibley of Medicine Lodge, Kan., her daughter Marilyn J. (Ray) Carroll of Clarksville, Tenn. and stepchildren, John (Pat) Cahill, Gerald Cahill, Linda (Mark) Bergstrom, James (Patty) Cahill, all of Superior, Michela Brisky of Gordon, and Roseann (Donna DiMenna) Cahill of St. Paul, Minn. Other survivors include her grandchildren, Melissa (Charles) Grantham of Chattanooga, Tenn., Marianne Johnson, Michelle (James) Nelson of Clarksville, Tenn., Sarah Carroll of Chattanooga, Tenn., Elizabeth Carroll of Clarksville, Tenn., and Jay Kennedy of Hopkins, Minn., Maxwell Kennedy and Josef Kennedy of Superior. She is further survived by numerous great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren, who she enjoyed tremendously.
Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. July 3, (her 86th birthday) at Faith United Methodist Church, 1531 Hughitt Ave., Superior with Rev. Joel Certa-Werner officiating. Interment will be in the family plot at Greenwood Cemetery immediately following the service, after which there will be a light refreshments served by her friends at Faith United Methodist Church. Bring your memories and stories to share. We would like to thank all of her family and friends for their flowers, cards, prayers and kind thoughts. May she rest in peace.
