LETTER: What do advocates fear? Why do abortion rights advocates oppose laws requiring women seeking an abortion to view an ultrasound?
Why do abortion rights advocates oppose laws requiring women seeking an abortion to view an ultrasound?
Because experience has shown that a large number of those women change their minds about abortion when they see their baby.
Why do abortion rights advocates oppose laws that require a parent’s permission for their minor daughter to have an abortion?
Morality-based logic has no place in the abortion business.
The Wisconsin Legislature passed a measure called “Sonya’s Law.” This legislation provides every pregnant woman with an opportunity to see her baby through ultrasound and experience his heartbeat before she makes a decision about her pregnancy.
Wisconsin Right to Life newsletter reports, “Sonya was a mother of two children and became unexpectedly pregnant. She worried about how she could handle another child emotionally and financially. She seriously thought about abortion. She decided to take advantage of a free ultrasound and realized the baby’s heart was beating which resulted in a decision to carry him to term. Another life saved.
Yes, I know that doesn’t solve all of Sonya’s problems. But is it ever right to take another’s life? We must learn somehow to deal with the problems of life, even when it costs us greatly.
There are alternatives to abortion. There are others willing to help. There are those who are interested in adoption. Among them, my wife and I.
Wisconsin State Legislators are doing the right thing by supporting Sonya’s Law.
