The Superior Reds baseball team has been busy with five games in four days.
The Reds defeated Duluth Lakeview 11-1 in six innings Thursday night at Morrie Arnovich Field, then finished third in the Land of the Loon Tournament in Virginia.
Superior lost to Minneapolis Southwest then defeated Ely, Taconite and Virginia to improve to 6-1 on the season.
The Reds are at Ashland for two games at 6 p.m. today and play a doubleheader at noon Saturday at Eau Claire.
Mpls. SW 10, Reds 0
Minneapolis Southwest defeated the Reds in six innings Friday night in the opening round of the tournament in Virginia.
Colton Yepma suffered the loss and Dane Sislo had Superior’s lone hit.
Southwest scored twice in the first inning and four times both in the fourth and fifth innings.
Reds 10, Ely 5
Sislo was the winning pitcher in game two, allowing five hits with six walks and five strikeouts.
Erick Anderson hit a two-run home run to lead the Reds offensively. Nik Mattson added two hits, three runs and two RBIs; Jordan Hughes and Trent Olson had a hit and two RBIs apiece; and Yepma and Spencer Severson had a hit and RBI each.
Ely took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning and didn’t score again until plating two runs in the seventh. The Reds scored four times in the bottom of the first inning, twice in the fourth and sixth innings and once each in the second and third.
Reds 9, Taconite 3
Tyler Long was the winning pitcher against Taconite, allowing six hits with eight strikeouts and six walks.
At the plate, Clayton Yeazle had two hits and an RBI; Bo Higgins had a hit and two RBIs; Olson and Severson had two hits apiece; Hughes had an RBI single; and Loga n Long singled.
Trailing 3-1, the Reds scored six runs in the fourth inning and once each in the fifth and sixth innings.
Reds 6, Virginia 0
The third-place game was limited to five innings because of rain.
Yeazle was the winning pitcher, allowing one hit with six strikeouts and one walk.
Mattson was 2-for-3 with three RBIs; Severson had a an RBI single; Sislo knocked in two runs; and Olson and Tyler Long had a hit each.
The Reds scored four times in the third inning and twice in the fourth.
Res 11, Lakeview 1
The Reds defeated Lakeview in six innings.
Mattson was the winning pitcher, allowing five hits with four walks, four strikeouts and two hit batters.
Mattson also had two hits on offense; Tyler Long doubled, singled and scored three runs; Yepma had two hits; and Hughes, Anderson, Severson, Olson and Yeazle had a hit apiece.
Superior took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, then ended the game early with a six-run sixth inning.
