The Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center announced the sixth offering in its 2013 Cold War film series.
The center will screen “Dr. Strangelove” at 7 p.m. June 18, starring Peter Sellers and George C. Scott. The film is shown in the Pearl Harbor Theatre. Films shown during the summer will be presented in the evening.
Brig. Gen. Jack Ripper is convinced the Soviets have been using the United States water supply to poison Americans, so he orders a nuclear attack on the Soviets without consulting his superiors.
Ripper’s executive officer realizes no order for war has been received, and tries to stop the general before it is too late.
“Dr. Strangelove” was released in 1964 and is considered a classic ‘black comedy’ for its satirical treatment of the Cold War and the nuclear threat.
As always, admission to the movie and popcorn are free. Beverages are available. Campbell Lumber and Superior Rotary Club 40 sponsor the film series.
