Join Harbor House Crisis Shelters in the second Annual 5K Walk/Run “Every Step Brings Us Closer to Home” fundraiser June 29. This event benefits Harbor House Crisis Shelters, the only homeless shelter for single women and families in Douglas County and the largest shelter provider. This 5K follows the Osaugie Trail and is open to walkers and runners of all ages and abilities. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and will be held at the charter fishing dock parking lot on Barker’s Island. Participants will be bussed to the starting point at Loon’s Fishing Dock. Runners will begin at 9 a.m.; walkers at 9:15 a.m.
Entry fees are $25 for runners, walkers and ghost runners before June 14; the entry fee for a family of three or more is $40. The cost increases by $10 for registrations on the day of the race. Door prizes will be awarded for best time man and woman runner and walker. Participants could also win a vacation trip through Serenity Spa & Salon.
Last year more than 100 people participated in the inaugural 5K to benefit the Harbor House. The event raised more than $3,000.
