I was spared the terrible damage and destruction caused by the recent wildfire. Wind direction, location and luck were on my side. Virtually everyone east of me on my road was either destroyed or received substantial damage.
I was able to witness first-hand the work many fire departments from so many towns and villages did to help. The Department of Natural Resources, foresters, conservation people, wardens, county law enforcement, many town and village law enforcement and many others — and of course, the fight from the air with choppers, small surveillance planes, big tanker planes. The fight went on after the big blaze was out with foresters and firefighters extinguishing spot fires around the clock.
I am grateful to all the men and women for their effort to fight and control this fire. They should be recognized.
