Spartan soccer team still undefeated in Border Conference
The Superior High School girls soccer team remained undefeated in the Border Conference with a 2-1 win at Spooner Tuesday evening.
The Spartans, 6-2 overall and 6-0 in league play, began the week with a rain-shortened 3-0 win over Amery Monday at the SHS soccer fields.
Cassie Hanson scored the winning goal in the 77th minute Tuesday and Sara Balcer finished with 15 saves.
Monday’s game with Amery was called after the first half.
“They called the game at the half because the field turned into a lake,” SHS coach Len Albrecht said. “The whole first half was played in a torrential downpour.”
Game results are official if at least one half has been played.
Superior’s Rachel Dixon and Amber Holt each had one goal and one assist apiece, and Tina Lurndal scored Superior’s third goal.
Dixon scored in the 13th minute with an assist from Holt. Holt then game Superior a 2-0 lead in the 30th minute with an unassisted goal, and Lurndal made the final score 3-0 in the 36th minute, assisted by Dixon.
Balcer had three saves in goal for the Spartans.
Superior plays at Osceola Thursday, hosts Ashland Friday and wraps up its regular season at Hayward Tuesday. All three games begin at 4:30 p.m.
