To raise awareness on all-terrain and utility vehicle safety Trails North ATV’ers Inc. is staging a Safety Awareness Stop on Saturday and Sunday in Iron River.
The stop is at the trailhead parking lot next to Iron River Auto Parts along the Tri-County Corridor from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days. There will be snacks, soft drinks and prizes for participants. All ATV/UTV and snowmobile enthusiasts are encouraged to attend.
As the number of ATV/UTVs increase in our state, along with the numbers of snowmobilers that frequent our area, the need to bring attention to trail safety is overdue. According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the number of ATV/UTV fatalities for the 2012 season totaled 15 and the 2012-2013 snowmobile season was 19 people state wide.
Trails North ATV’ers Inc., is a nonprofit organization in Iron River, with a goal of making trail systems in Bayfield County safer. The club maintains more than 50 miles of trails throughout the summer and preps them for winter snowmobiling.
