Richard J. “Dick” Penney, 72, lifelong resident of Superior, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Essentia Health Care Center in Duluth, with his wife, daughter and son at his side.
Dick was born Aug. 24, 1940 in Superior to William and Mary Penney. On Aug. 20, 1983, Dick married Beverly F. Larson.
He was the owner/operator of the Catlin Avenue Auto Body Shop for 40 years. Dick liked to be outdoors gardening and fishing. He always had tomato plants growing on the deck with plenty of tomatoes to share with others. Dick was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and he and Bev always watched the game together.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Beverly; son, Eric (Bridget Putnam) of Superior and daughter, Richele (Jason) Deroo of Oakland, Wis.; two grandchildren, Heather and Leah; a brother, James (Linda) of Palm Harbor, Fla. and sister, Barbara (Michael) Gangnon of Superior; a niece, Leslie and nephews, Michael, Kevin and Aaron “AJ”; many cousins, friends and his loving dog, Snookey.
A gathering of family and friends from 9 until the 10 a.m. memorial service Thursday, May 23 at Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave., Duluth. (218) 624-5200.
