At Four Corners Elementary School in rural Superior, the letter “A” usually stands for a good grade. However, at 5 p.m. Saturday, “A” will stand for Auction, specifically the first of what will become an annual Four Corners Tech for Tikes Auction and Concert.
The goal of the Tech for Tikes Auction and Concert is to raise money to put technology into the hands of the students at Four Corners, giving them access to tools and skills they will eventually need in the workplace.
It is exciting for the teachers too, because they can teach and help their students learn with the most recent technology and applications to increase student learning.
“It’s critical to empower the students,” said Stefanie Smetak, a third grade teacher at Four Corners. “We are laying a foundation for a lifetime of learning, and technology is a large part of the future.”
The event is the brainchild of the Four Corners Technology Committee, who thought a community event comprised of an auction and concert would be the perfect way to bring people together and raise money for the school. In addition to bringing the community together, it would offer people wanting to help the school an alternative to a financial donation. Instead, they could support by donating unused items they already have, or attending the concert in exchange for a cost they determine.
The concert begins at 7 p.m. and features singer-songwriters Bill and Kate Isles; well-loved musicians who perform locally, regionally and nationally. Admission is free, with donations accepted.
The final auction bill of sale is not yet set, but the Auction Committee is working to collect donated items to auction, everything from antiques, farm equipment, tools, and cars and trucks, to good furniture, curious or rare goods, or services.
There is still a large need for auction items; anything of value is welcome, and some good items have already been collected.
If you have an item to donate, contact 715-399-8911; pick up of items is an option.
To attend the first Four Corners Tech for Tikes Auction and Concert, head over to Four Corners School at 4465 E. County Road B on Saturday. Viewing and registration for the auction is from 2-5 p.m., and the auction starts at 5 p.m. A partial list of auction items can be found at www.osullivanauctions.com. Singer-songwriters Bill and Kate Isles, www.billandkateisles.com, perform at 7 p.m.
In addition to teaching first grade, Nate Schilling is the technology coach at Four Corners Elementary School.
