The Superior High School softball team suffered its first loss of the season, 5-1, to the Cloquet Lumberjacks Tuesday evening at Superior Middle School.
The Spartans took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on Jessica Lindstrom’s RBI double.
Lindstrom also singled, Ari Jago singled twice and Taylor Johnson and Emily Hansen both singled once for the Spartans, who fall to 8-1.
Shannon Johnstad suffered the loss for the Spartans, allowing one hit with eight walks and five strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Kaitlin Heinen struck out four batters in the final two innings.
Chandler Beaupre was the complete-game winner for Cloquet, allowing six hits with seven strikeouts.
At the plate for the Lumberjacks, Makayla Langenbrunner singled and knocked in two runs, Katrina Smith had an RBI single and Beaupre singled.
Cloquet scored once in the fifth inning and four times in the sixth.
The Spartans are at Duluth Marshall at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, play two games at Hibbing at 4 p.m. Friday, then play two games at Ashland at 10 a.m. Saturday.
