Every year since 1963, May has been the month to appreciate and celebrate the vitality and aspirations of older adults, and their contributions and achievements. It is a proud, 55-year-old tradition that shows our nation’s commitment to honor the value that elders continue to contribute to our communities.
This year’s Older Americans Month theme is “Unleash the Power of Age!” It emphasizes the important role of older adults.
This May, communities across the nation will recognize older Americans as active, productive and influential members of society. Many of our local older citizens still make significant contributions to our communities by serving on committees and boards, working at the polls, and volunteering at churches, schools, hospitals and meal sites.
While Senior Connections provides services, support and resources to older adults year-round, Older Americans Month is a great opportunity to show special appreciation. We will continue to provide opportunities for elders to come together and share their experiences with one another, as well as with individuals of other generations. Watch the papers for information about our upcoming events or give us a call at 715-394-3611. You may also visit www.seniorconnectionswi.org.
If you are an older adult who is actively engaged in your community, we say, thank you for being a positive role model and showing us how to unleash the power of age.
