WLSSSD’s yard waste compost site opens this weekend with special expanded hoursThe Western Lake Superior Sanitary District’s Yard Waste Compost Site will open for the season this Saturday with special expanded hours.
The Western Lake Superior Sanitary District’s Yard Waste Compost Site will open for the season this Saturday with special expanded hours to accommodate residents’ needs. The Yard Waste Compost Site will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from Saturday through May 13. All regular Yard Waste Compost Site services will be available when the site opens.
“Although we typically open the yard waste site in mid-April, the late-season snow and rain has made the site very wet and inaccessible until now,” said Heidi Ringhofer, WLSSD director of solid waste services. “We’ve had many calls from community members who are anxious to use the site and it’s finally dry enough for vehicle traffic. Because of the large number of callers and late opening, we decided to expand our hours to accommodate the large number of community members waiting for the site to open.”
When the site opens for the season on Saturday, all regular site services will be available. WLSSD accepts leaves, grass clippings and garden waste at no charge and brush for a fee. Garden Green® compost is also sold in bags and in bulk by the yard.
Regular facility hours will resume on May 14: open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
