The Northwestern High School softball team played three games earlier this week, going a perfect 3-0.
The Tigers swept a doubleheader from the Ladysmith Lumberjacks 12-4 and 4-0 on Monday then defeated Cumberland 7-1 Tuesday. Thursday’s game with Hayward was snowed out and will be made up as part of a doubleheader at Hayward on May 11.
Tiana Arseneau was the winning pitcher in all three games with relief help from Aliex Friend.
Arseneau allowed three hits with seven strikeouts in the opener against Ladysmith. In game two she struck out four batters in four inning and against Cumberland combined with Friend in allowing four hits with seven strikeouts.
Friend pitched one inning in each game against Ladysmith, striking out five batters.
In the first game against Ladysmith, Maddie Spangenberg was 3-for-4 with three runs scored; Samantha Clark was 3-for-4; Friend was 2-for-4; Lexi Janigo tripled and singled; and Hailey Eller was 2-for-2.
Spangenberg and Arseneau had two hits apiece in game two.
Against Cumberland, Clark, a freshman, had two hits, including a solo home run, and two RBIs; Spangenberg singled, walked twice, scored three runs and stole three bases; Janigo was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two stolen bases; Friend singled twice and stole two bases; and Eller tripled.
The Tigers are scheduled to play five doubleheaders in the next eight days beginning with hosting Spooner at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Northwestern will then play at Duluth East Monday, host Barron Tuesday and Chetek Thursday. All three dates begin at 4 p.m. The Tigers wrap up next week with two games at Hayward on Saturday.
