The University of Wisconsin-Superior baseball team went 0-4 over the weekend at UW-Stevens Point. The Pointers defeated the Yellowjackets 10-0 and 21-5 in seven innings Saturday and 6-3 and 8-7 Sunday.
UWSP rallied from three runs down to edge UWS 8-7 to complete Sunday’s sweep.
Jimmy Coady was 4-for-4 with five RBIs, including a game-tying two-run home run in the eighth inning.
T.J. Evanson hit two homers and drove in three runs for UWS (14-21, 7-13).
Coady had three hits in a 6-3 victory by the Pointers (24-7, 12-4) in the first game. Shawn Lanners homered for the Yellowjackets.
Ryan Schilter hit a pair of home runs amid a 31-run onslaught as host UWSP rolled to a pair of wins over UWS Saturday.
The Pointers scored five runs in the second inning of the 10-0 opening-game win to back pitcher J.P. Feyereisen’s five-hit, five-strikeout performance. Nick Douglas had a two-run double and Clint Rose followed with a two-run single to break the game open.
Schilter, Sean Gerber and Riley Spetz had four hits apiece in a 21-4, seven-inning win in game two. The Pointers scored six runs in the second inning and six more in the third to open up a 10-run margin.
The Yellowjackets have now lost six straight games but still have a slim chance of advancing to the WIAC tournament. Their seven wins are the same as UW-Oshkosh and UW-La Crosse, but both teams only have seven losses to 13 for Superior.
The Yellowjackets (14-21, 7-13) close out the regular season with a four-game series at UW-Stout at noon Saturday and Sunday.
Oshkosh has four games left with Stevens Point and six games left with UW-Platteville. La Crosse had six games remaining with Stevens Point and four games left with Stout.
