Superior police are investigating an incident that occurred around 11 p.m. Sunday.
According to a news release issued by Chief Deputy of Investigations Nicholas Alexander, a white male in his mid-30s was admitted to the emergency room at Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Hospital in Superior.
Initially, it was reported the man was found lying in the road near Belknap Street and Ohio Avenue, and a person driving a vehicle passing through the area checked on the injured party and transported him to the hospital, Alexander started in a prepared statement. He said this version of events has since been determined to be inaccurate.
An arrest has been made with charges expected to be filed Wednesday, but the incident remains under investigation.
According to police, the injured male appeared to be suffering from head trauma and was unconscious. He was later transported to the Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth for care. As of Tuesday afternoon, the man was listed in critical condition.
The victim has been identified; however, his name is being withheld.
The suspect is expected to make an initial appearance in Douglas County Circuit Court on Wednesday.
