I just read where Hostess Brands has agreed to sell its rights and recipes for Twinkies and Dolly Madison cakes for $410 million. To the relief of those confection cake aficionados, Twinkies have been saved.
On reflection of this deal, $410 million is a lot of money for a couple of cellophane wrapped treats. That is enough to provide a snack for every inhabitant of our nation several times over. Who would have thought the humble Twinkie would be worth that much.
The money invested obviously was spent in expectation of a nice profit in the future. Investing $410 million today could result in billions later. Few people have the means to be involved in such a high-priced speculation; or do they?
Actually, every one of us is involved in a much higher cost transaction than this. Every day, we are faced with decisions regarding the investment of our life. Opportunities come and go, enticing us to squander or devote our existence. The value of any human life far exceeds the measly $410 million mentioned above. Our future value of return is determined by the choices we make each day.
So, how is your investment going? Are you expending your life in view of an eternal return, or are you squandering your existence for a short-term experience. When all is said and done, will you enjoy the eternal benefits of a life well invested in God, or will you end up as just another Twinkie?
