Louis William Belanger, 84, passed peacefully with family at his side on Friday, April 12, 2013, at Northern Lights Health Care Center in Washburn, Wis. He was born Aug. 14, 1928, in the Belanger Settlement the son of William and Mary (Butterfield) Belanger.
Louis married Eunice Elaine Pratt on Dec. 24, 1948. He was employed as a truck driver for Dupont, Tri-State, Anderson and Clark Transfer. He also worked on the Ore Boats, as a sawyer at Kalina in Oregon and Isaksson Lumber Company in Herbster, Wis. Prior to retiring, Louis served as an assistant C.E.O. for Birch Street Excavating and Septic Service. He was a member of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and attended the Belanger Settlement School. Louis was proud of catching the Wisconsin State Record Burbot in 2002 and the record still stands today. He enjoyed family cabin time, hunting, fishing, woodworking and hobby farming.
He is survived by his wife, Eunice, five children, Bonnie Belanger-Livingston of Superior, Becky (Tim) Treado – Marquette, Mich., Greg (Marilu Stepien) Belanger – Washburn, Ken (Marne) Belanger – Washburn and Doug (Cyndi) Belanger – Washburn; his grandchildren, Michelle Scheer, Ryan (Erica) Livingston, Jon (Heather) Belanger, Todd Belanger, Matt and Chris Treado, Amanda, Kurtis, and Lauren Belanger, Rachel (Brandon Little) Belanger, Sarah and Emily Belanger; great-grandchildren, Nick, Jacob, Alexis, and Alita Scheer, Parker Cram, and Cheyenne Roney, Jonna and Maverick Belanger, Levi Belanger, Caleb, Eva and Addisen Livingston; great-great-grandchildren, Carter Scheer, Dakota Scheer, Serenity and Gavin Walker and Jakalyn Scheer; four siblings, Beverly (Donald) Benton, Roberta (Burt) Burdick, Richard Belanger and David Belanger; three sisters-in-law, Donna Jean Belanger, Anne Belanger and LouAnne Belanger and a brother-in-law, Tom Barningham.
He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings, Dale, Veryle, Lawrence, Joyce, Betty, Dan and Ed.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 17 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Bayfield, Wis. with Rev. Kevin Gordon officiating. Visitation will be held from 10–11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Private family burial will take place at the Belanger Settlement Cemetery. The Bratley Funeral Home in Washburn is handling the arrangements.
