A convicted sex offender is in custody at the Douglas County Jail after being accused of child sex assault and possession of child pornography.
Richard Ellery Morisett Jr., 36, made an initial appearance in Douglas County Circuit Court on Tuesday. The Superior man faces two counts of sexual assault of a child under 16 years of age as well as felony charges of incest, sexual exploitation of a child, possession of child pornography and registered sex offender intentionally photograph a minor without consent.
A $100,000 cash bond was set for Morisett, who has two previous child sex assault convictions.
According to the criminal complaint:
Morisett assaulted a 15-year-old at least twice including incidents of sexual contact and intercourse. Superior police investigators found pictures of the teen in various stages of undress as well as pictures of her genetalia on Morisett’s digital camera. Another 15-year-old was videotaped performing oral sex on Morisett. A search of a flash drive collected from the Superior man’s home included images of children who appeared to be younger than age 18 who were naked and/or in sexual positions with genitals exposed to the camera.
Morisett was convicted of second-degree sexual assault of a child on Nov. 6, 1998. He also was convicted of first-degree sexual assault of a child in 1996, according to court records.
In both cases, he was convicted after performing oral sex on 6-year-old girls known by him, according to information released by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department when Morisett was released from the Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Center in 2010. Morisett was housed at the site for about four years under a civil commitment as a sexually violent person.
In 2011, Morisett was accused of moving to Superior from South Range without notifying authorities. He pleaded no contest to violating the sex offender registry, a class H felony, and was sentenced to two days in jail and court costs totaling $530.
If convicted of the sex assault or incest charges, Morisett could face life imprisonment due to his criminal history of repeated child sex violations. He is scheduled to make his next court appearance Wednesday.
He remained in custody at the Douglas County Jail on Thursday.
