The U.S. Coast Guard has been asked to conduct ice breaking operations in the South Channel of Chequamegon Bay in support of the Madeline Island Ferry.
On Wednesday at 7 a.m. a U.S. Coast Guard Ice Breaker will break the ice in South Channel so the Madeline Island Ferry can begin operations. The ice breaker will not disturb ice in the North or West Channel and will not proceed north of Bayfield or the Madeline Island Ferry Dock.
All ice fishermen are asked to remove their ice shacks from this area. Recreational users of the ice should plan their activity carefully, and stay away from the South Channel as all of the ice in this area will be broken.
