Test your fitness level on an obstacle course, browse an array of silent auction items and enjoy a pancake breakfast during the “A Walk in Their Shoes” event Saturday at Superior High School.
The walk, put on by a group of Leadership Superior/Douglas County participants, honors public servants. The obstacle course, said Deputy Chief Nick Alexander of the Superior Police Department, will give people an idea of the physical requirements for law enforcement officers and firefighters. And money raised from the event will go toward a scholarship for a Superior High School student pursuing a career in public service.
There will be a guest speaker, raffle and silent auction along with breakfast and the obstacle course challenge. The event is a way to inform the community about the role public servants play and a way to thank them, according to the leadership group. The cost to attend is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 7-12 and children under age 6 can eat for free. The event takes place from 9 a.m. to noon at the Superior High School.
Alexander said that the leadership class has opened his eyes to many different facets of the community, from the help available through various non-profit groups to the county’s history. Class members look at the nuts and bolts of local businesses, learn about area resources and study public service sector jobs as well.
“It’s a nice, well-rounded experience,” Alexander said.
The walk is one of four community projects being helmed by the leadership class. One group of participants launched the Little Blue Bookshelf last year. The other two groups are focusing on financial literacy classes for high school and college students and a fitness/healthy lifestyle project.
