Marvin L. Peterson, passed away Feb. 23, 2013 at Grace Hospice Care, Madison, Wis. following a brief illness.
He was born April 20, 1923 in Waupaca, Wis. son of Martin and Lillie Peterson.
He grew up in Poplar and attended school in Poplar. As a teenager he worked at Poplar Hardware and during World War II he managed the hardware until Robert Lundberg returned from service to take over his old job. Marv worked for Skelgas before marrying Nelda Bong sister of Major Richard Bong in 1951. They lived in Aurora, Ill. and Milwaukee, Wis. before moving to Lacrosse, Wis. where he owned and operated Skelgas LaCrosse.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Nelda and his daughter Sherry.
He is survived by his wife Diana; his son Bradley (Monica) Peterson; brothers-in-law Carl Bong, San Diego, Calf. and James Bong, Lake Nebagamon; sisters-in-law Joyce Bong Erickson, Poplar, Barbara Bong Peterman, Eaton Rapids, Mich. and Geraldine Bong Fechtelkotter, Poplar and many nieces and nephews.
Marv was active over the years in the Zor Shrine Temple and served as potentate. He was also an active Elk in both LaCrosse and Madison. He was a supporter of the Wisconsin Badgers and the Bong Heritage Center in Superior. He loved golfing, traveling and gardening. He will be missed by many.
