O’Handley coaches in 1,000th USHL game
Superior native P.K. O’Handley set a U.S. Hockey League record March 9, coaching in his 1,000th league game as the Waterloo (Iowa) Black Hawks defeated Dubuque (Iowa) 4-3 in a shootout in Dubuque.
Superior native P.K. O’Handley set a U.S. Hockey League record March 9, coaching in his 1,000th league game as the Waterloo (Iowa) Black Hawks defeated Dubuque (Iowa) 4-3 in a shootout in Dubuque.
O’Handley is 495-434-72 in 17 years in the league. He has spent the last 10 in Waterloo and seven previously with North Iowa. In his 1,001st game March 12, Waterloo won 4-1 at Chicago. The Black Hawks are 31-22 this season.
O’Handley will be inducted into the Superior High School Academic & Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday.
Being inducted into the Academic Hall of Fame under the category of lifetime achievement are Andy Lisak and Jim Hawkins. Other 2013 inductees for the Athletic Hall of Fame is Gerard “Gerry” Uchytil in the coaching achievement category, Casey VanDamme and Josh Noble in the individual athletic category and the 1994-95 Superior Senior High School girls basketball team in the team category.
The 2013 induction ceremony will take place at Superior Middle School on Saturday. Doors open at 5 p.m., dinner is at 6 p.m. and the induction ceremony begins at 7 p.m.
Tickets cost $40 and may be purchased from any Hall of Fame committee member, the Superior Douglas County Chamber of Commerce, the School District of Superior board office or from the treasurer at SHS. All money raised from this event goes toward supporting SHS athletic and academic teams.
