LETTER: Fennessey offers reason, not rhetoric

To the Telegram:

For God’s sake, please vote for Tom Fennessey for city council in the second district in Superior. Marty Curtiss is from Minnesota and he’s a Viking Fan.

I am joking of course when I talk about where he is from or his fan loyalty. No one should choose a candidate based on those things.

However, his letter really takes the cake in several ways. Google “deal with the devil” and somehow a person referred to as the devil will no longer be offended. City Attorney Frog Prell is one of the most upstanding people I have had the opportunity to work with. His efforts are in the best interest of all of the people of the city of Superior.

Curtiss works in his own self-interest. It’s nice he helped a guy that needed it. But then he used it in an effort to further himself. What really were his motivations?

He was never an advocate for the citizens of Superior. He was an advocate for an organization he created. In a couple of cases, he actually got the city to make changes to benefit his organization at the expense of all Superior taxpayers. Interestingly, he was almost always only one of two people that came to meetings to express his opinion on a particular issue.

Then he has the audacity to express a dislike for negativity in political campaigns. I can’t even begin to express how I feel about that statement. He characterized two campaigns against me in just that way. I never even once brought his name up first when campaigning and used it in no manner in campaign literature. He would never have gotten the votes he did without misleading people, and in some cases, telling outright lies.

Superior does not need change Curtiss-style.

Superior is on a good path in difficult times. Change is inevitable, the people currently in city government are aware of that and adapt constantly. Everyone should be aware that elected city officials are taxpaying citizens making decisions that affect themselves as well as everyone else. They are not the elite making decisions to appease large campaign contributors so they can keep their jobs.

In Curtiss, the ability to reason does not exist. Tom Fennessey will make decisions based on sound reasoning of the issues at hand and will do what benefits all of Superior.
