When she contacted Heritage Window and Door six years ago, Kim Kruger wasn’t sure the Superior company could help. It was the middle of winter, she couldn’t afford to replace all 25 windows in her 100-year-old house at once and she knew nothing about the process.

“Word of mouth was Heritage quality cannot be beat,” Kruger said. So she made the call, and it was a perfect fit. A trip to the showroom and a meeting with salesman Jerry Chiaverini led to a personal plan for the family.

“It was just easy, non-threatening, supportive, open to all budgets,” said Kruger, a physician with Duluth Family Medicine Center. Every year, carpenters have installed two or three new windows at her Duluth home. In the midst of other renovations, from tile work to plumbing, the Heritage workers stood out. They were clean, polite, quiet and didn’t leave a speck of dirt. The window replacements look like they’re original and the heat savings have been dramatic, Kruger said.

“They are head and shoulders over everybody we’ve ever worked with,” she said. “They are that exceptional.”

Heritage Window & Door has been offering high quality, high performance windows and doors, and top-notch service since 1992. The company recently won the Homeowner Satisfaction Decade Award from Anderson Windows.

For 10 years, Heritage has offered Renewal by Anderson window replacements. At least 80 percent of Renewal customers have awarded the Superior business top scores in satisfaction each year on the Anderson surveys.

In 2012, they received 100 percent top scores, the only one of the 105 Renewal affiliates nationwide to do so.

The award and top slot are a source of pride for the Heritage team. The businesses focuses on doing the best for the customers and doing the job right, said Tony Wasbotten, director of residential sales and service. The surveys hit all areas of the process, from the showroom to the installation and beyond.

“We’re not just there to sell you windows,” Chiaverini said. “We’re here for you after the sale.”

The locally-owned Superior business, which employs 11, is incredibly responsive, Kruger said. Calls are returned within a day and customers get a direct line to the person running their individual project.

“They will bend over backward to please,” she said.

Each house is unique, Wasbotten said, whether it’s 100 years old or 15, and so is each customer. So the carpenters who install the windows can custom make them to specifications and troubleshoot on sight, said salesman Zach Lauren.

The product is top-notch, too. Lauren has Renewal windows in his own house. He said that, on his worst months, the windows shave about $200 off his heating bill. After seeing how their heating bill has dropped, Kruger said, they have put a priority on replacing those last five windows.

While the decade award proves Heritage Window & Door is providing quality service, employees also keep the individual letters and phone messages they receive from clients. Lauren played a short one from a recent customer.

“Nothing but awesome, man,” the man said. “Nothing but awesome.”

Along with Renewal by Anderson, the business also offers doors and windows by Lowen, Eagle, Duxton, Serios Windows and innotech.
