Jury resumes work in Wisconsin starved girl case

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A jury has resumed deliberations in the case of a Wisconsin man accused of starving and torturing his teenage daughter.

Dane County Circuit Judge Julie Genovese ordered the jury to resume its work at 10:22 a.m. CDT Friday.

Jurors began deliberations in the man's three-week trial Thursday afternoon. They worked for nearly nine-and-a-half hours before sending Genovese a note saying they couldn't agree on a verdict and asking if they could go home. The judge dismissed them for the night but told them to return Friday morning and continue their discussions.

Prosecutors have charged the Madison man with a half-dozen child abuse-related counts. The Associated Press isn't naming him to avoid identifying the girl, who has alleged her stepbrother sexually assaulted her.
