Superior native P.K. O’Handley set a U.S. Hockey League record last Saturday night, coaching in a 1,000th league game as his Waterloo (Iowa) Black Hawks defeated Dubuque (Iowa) 4-3 in a shootout in Dubuque.
O’Handley is 495-434-72 in 17 years in the league, the last 10 in Waterloo and seven previously with North Iowa. In his 1,001st game Tuesday, Waterloo won 4-1 at Chicago. The Black Hawks are 31-22 this season.
O’Handley will be inducted into the Superior High School Academic & Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, March 23.
