A full slate of candidates are competing for a pair of seats on the Superior School Board, and this year the Superior Area Council PTA will host the candidates’ forum.
The forum begins at 6 p.m. Monday in the Superior Middle School cafetorium.
Ellen Chicka, president of the Superior Area Council PTA, said this is the first year the organization has held a forum.
“Warren Bender contacted the Council secretary, saying the union was not hosting this year. He asked if we were interested, and of course I said yes,” Chicka said. “I was hoping we could host one if no one else was, especially with four candidates in the mix.”
The candidates will be asked a series of questions on topics ranging from school safety to the recent 2013-15 budget proposal and potential expansion of the school voucher program.
“I’d also like to hear their thoughts on increasing parent involvement in the schools and what they feel is the best way to do that,” Chicka said.
Candidates are asked to keep their responses within set time limits, and Superior High School student Jacob Gondik will act as moderator for the forum. Gondik is a member of the high school mock trial team.
The forum is open to the public, and Chicka said she hopes the public will take advantage of the opportunity to learn more about the School Board candidates.
The candidates running in the April 2 election are Patrick Dorin, James Farkas, Christina Kintop and Michael Raunio. Dorin and Kintop are incumbents.
