Battle Cabin Fever with old time music

Due to major flood damage at the Radisson Hotel in Duluth, the Cabin Fever Festival is moving to The Inn On Lake Superior on Canal Park in Duluth.

The Minnesota Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Association again hosts its Cabin Fever Festival March 22-24 at the Radisson Lakeview Hotel in Duluth. This weekend long event will feature veteran bluegrass musician Alan Bibey and his band Grasstowne from North Carolina, plus ten other groups from various parts of Minnesota, including The Roe Family Singers from Minneapolis and Cousin Dad from Saint Cloud.

The festival begins at 7 p.m. March 22 with “Bowery Brothers Live,” an evening of open mic in Bowery Brothers pub in the lower level of the hotel. There will also be plenty of impromptu jam sessions on the Superior street level and upstairs in the hotel lobby that can be expected to continue into the early morning hours. On Saturday there will be workshops noon to 5 p.m., a draw band competition at 4 p.m., stage shows starting at noon with Four Mile Portage, Tin Can Gin, Porcupine Creek, The Fish Heads, Bill & Kate Isles, Northern Lights Bluegrass, The Seldom Herd, and The Biscuit Boys. The festival moves across the street at 5 p.m. for a dinner show from the Roe Family Singers and Cousin Dad at the Incline Station on Superior Street.

Then back to the Radisson at 7 p.m. for the highlight concert with Grasstowne plus another set from The Roe Family and Cousin Dad. The informal jam sessions are expected to continue throughout the day and again into the early morning hours. The festival will finish off Sunday morning with gospel music from Sloughgrass starting at 9:30 a.m. followed by a gospel jam session until noon.

A weekend festival ticket gets you into all the Cabin Fever Festival activities and is only $23 in advance or $25 at the door on Friday. Single day admission at the door will be $5 on Friday and $20 on Saturday.
