To the Telegram:
After reading the Feb. 28 article in the Telegram about myself, “Attack politics nets few apologies,” which was less than flattering, I will respond as I did to the mayor: I do not want to respond “in kind.”
I fully understand how important it is to work together and get along so we can make our community a better place. Isn’t that our common goal? Superior needs to change.
When you read a story about a group of volunteers coming to the aid of an elderly citizen, the story may leave you feeling warm and fuzzy, and bring tears to the eyes.
While it brought me to the brink of tears, I doubt the story did that for anyone else.
After reading the article, I feel I need apologize. I apologize to the man we helped, his family, neighbors, and the volunteers who helped with the project, many my family and friends.
Their effort to help the man was not portrayed in the Telegram; their work deserves praise. They came because they cared and wanted to help.
Two volunteers ran for mayor; they helped edit the story I wrote about the man we helped, and share a different and positive vision of Superior’s future.
I Googled “deal with the devil.” The phrase was applied correctly; if it was misinterpreted, I apologize again. Perhaps, if the city attorney or Telegram Googled the phrase, there would have been no need for the article.
I don’t believe the city attorney is actually the devil, and I don’t believe the Telegram is fair and impartial. I am very proud to say even though it was very difficult, we were successful on the project.
Like many of you, my wife Violet and I don’t appreciate the negativity that pops up during political campaigns. I believe Superior has many opportunities to improve people’s lives. Perhaps, like the man helped by volunteers, you don’t feel you have been treated superior.
Superior needs positive change. I would appreciate your vote April 2.
