LETTER: Wis. needs representation

To the Telegram:

I just finished reading a short article published March 6 in the Duluth News Tribune “Prettner Solon at Great Lakes Commission meeting.” As I have participated as a listener in some of these meetings as an advocate for Lake Superior, I have this to say, Wisconsin currently has two members of this Commission, Kenneth Johnson, commission chair and delegation chair, and Steve Galarneau and one vacancy, and no alternates.

Most states have three to five commissioners according to Prettner Solon. Indiana has five commissioners and no alternates.

Every other Great Lakes state has more representation than does Wisconsin, which is bordered by two Great Lakes. It would be wonderful to have a representative to advocate and support Lake Superior programs. These appointments are political and the governor has a great deal to do with the representation. Ask Gov. Scott Walker to make another appointment so Lake Superior and Wisconsin will have more representation than we have had for a while.
