Turner named all-conference

Turner, a 2011 graduate of Superior High School, catapulted herself to the top of the SWAC after the SWAC East Round-up as she finished league play with an average of 200.3 and narrowly missed SWAC MVP honors by 1/16 of a point.

JACKSON, Miss. — Sophomore Sharita Turner and freshman Ashle Reid were named to the 2013 All-Southwestern Athletic Conference Bowling Team for their performances on the lanes during SWAC play.

Turner earned first team honors while Reid was named to the second team.

Turner, a 2011 graduate of Superior High School, catapulted herself to the top of the SWAC after the SWAC East Round-up as she finished league play with an average of 200.3 and narrowly missed SWAC MVP honors by 1/16 of a point.

During the last round-up in Jackson, Miss., Turner began the event with three decent scores before arriving on the scene with nine consecutive games over 200, including eight games with scores of 220 or more.

“I’m extremely proud of the both Sharita and Ashle and their accomplishments of making the All-Conference team,” said coach Glenn White. “Sharita came on strong at the end and hopefully she will continue to build on it. Ashle has been steady all season and has shown great poise as a freshman. I look forward to both continuing to excel.”

The Lady Panthers are back in action this weekend at the Music City Classic in Smyrna, Tenn.

The 2013 SWAC Championship will be held in Birmingham, Ala. beginning on March 22.
