Superior’s Eliason scores for Marshall; Smith helps out in East win
Superior’s Lane Eliason, a junior at Duluth Marshall, scored a goal for the Hilltoppers in a 4-1 win over Marshall (Minn.) Friday morning during the Minnesota State Hockey Tournament at the Xcel Center in St. Paul.
Marshall, which lost to Hermantown on Wednesday, will play in the consolation championship game at 10 a.m. Saturday against either Rochester Lourdes or St. Cloud Apollo.
Lane, who now has goals and two assists, is the son of Superior’s Joey and Catharine Eliason.
Also in playing in the Minnesota state tournament is Duluth East’s Justin Smith, the son of Jim and Sandy Smith. Jim grew up in Superior and Sandy currently works at the Superior Housing Authority.
Duluth East defeated Moorhead 1-0 Thursday and plays again at 6 p.m. Friday against the winner of Lakeville North and Edina.
Smith, a senior defenseman has one goal and four assists this season.
