Robert A. "Bob" Drahota, 85, longtime Superior resident, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center, Hospice unit, Duluth, Minn., following a brief illness.
He was born on Jan. 24, 1928, in Superior to Joseph and Anna (Cicha) Drahota.
Bob attended St. Patrick's Catholic School and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1947.
He moved to Chicago where he was employed with Western Electric making blueprints. While he lived in Chicago, he attended Servants of Mary Order intending to become a priest. He then moved to Minneapolis where he made blueprints for Northern Ordinance.
He married Carol Pepin and raised a beautiful daughter, Lisa.
Carol died in July of 1997, following a three year battle with cancer.
He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Bob was employed for several years for Superior Fiber Products. He had also had been employed as a building maintenance foreman for the University of Wisconsin-Superior for 19 years. Following his years at UWS, he was a greeter at Walmart.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, the Thomas F. Stein VFW Post 1091, the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post 435 and an avid Green Bay Packer fan. He will be remembered as a man who loved family and friends and especially loved spending time with his granddaughters.
Bob is survived by one daughter, Lisa (Adam Booher) Drahota Booher, Atlanta, Ga.; two granddaughters, Samantha Rose and Alexandra Skye Booher, Atlanta, Ga.; longtime friend and caregiver, Arthur Larkin and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.
In addition to his wife Carol, Bob is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Helen Pince, Louise Hlavka, Geraldine Blair and one brother, LeRoy Drahota.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial on Saturday, March 9, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Rev. James Tobolski, as celebrant.
Burial will be in the Parkview Cemetery in Hawthorne at a later date.
