It was déjà vu for the Solon Springs boys basketball team Saturday in Ashland.
For the second straight year, the Eagles fell to Drummond in the WIAA Division 5 regional finals.
The Lumberjacks (22-2) earned their fourth straight regional title with a 52-32 victory over Solon Springs (16-9).
The first and third quarters proved to be the difference, as Drummond outscored Solon Springs 12-5 in the first quarter and 14-6 in the third.
Ben Best, the Lumberjacks’ 6-foot-6 center, led all scorers with 18 points. Trey Scheldroup led the Eagles with 11 points.
On Friday night, the Eagles defeated Frederic 47-41 in Solon Springs to advance to the regional final game.
Solon Springs held a 9-7 lead after one quarter, but Frederic charged ahead with 17 points in the second quarter to take a 24-20 lead at halftime.
The third quarter was the turning point for the Eagles, as they held Frederic to just two points. Solon Springs, meanwhile, put up 14 points, led by Scheldroup with seven and Austin Khalar with five.
Frederic had a strong fourth quarter, scoring 15 points, but it wasn’t enough to overtake the Eagles.
Scheldroup finished with 17 points to lead Solon Springs. Logan Long added seven points; Tyler Long, Jacob Dahlberg and Daniel Gengenbach each had six; and Khalar finished with five.
