Eagles get rematch with Lumberjacks

Solon Springs defeated Frederic 47-41 Friday night in Solon Springs to advance to the WIAA Division 5 regional finals.

It’s déjà vu for the Solon Springs boys basketball team.

The Eagles defeated Frederic 47-41 Friday night in Solon Springs to advance to the WIAA Division 5 regional finals. This marks the second straight year Solon Springs will play in the regional finals, and this year’s opponent is the same as last.

The Drummond Lumberjacks, seeded No. 1 in the region, advanced on the other side of the bracket with a 48-35 victory over Siren.

Solon Springs and Drummond now face off in Ashland at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The Eagles played in the same venue last season and fell to Drummond, 51-39. The Lumberjacks’ 6-foot-6 center Ben Best scored 27 points in that game, and Solon Springs was outscored 14-6 in the final eight minutes.

Drummond defeated the Eagles during both of their regular season match-ups this year.
