Anthony S. "Tony" Herman, 31, of Superior, passed away at his home on Saturday Feb. 16, 2013 due to a drawn-out battle with PTSD.
Tony was born Oct. 18, 1981 in Crookston, Minn., son of Terrence and Marjorie (Holtz) Herman.
Right out of high school, Anthony served his country for over three years with the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge with the following medals: Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and two Purple Heart Medals.
Anthony enjoyed many past times including but not limited to hunting, camping, motorcycling and snowmobiling. He spent a lot of time with his family always trying to include them in his latest adventure. His children were his greatest pride in his life, although some lived across county they were always in his thoughts.
Anthony recently graduated from WITC with honors as a machinist.
Preceding him in death were his great-grandparents, Flora Culbertson, Eugene and Jeanette Bratt, Bruno Max and Edna Holtz; grandparents, Darrell W. and Jacqulyn E. Holtz; uncles, Steven D. and Curtis R. Holtz, Martin Little Sr., Bobby, Danny and William Herman, Jr.
Anthony is survived by children, Alexander and Autumn Herman of Lake Charles, La., Emma Herman of Leesville, La., and Hunter Herman of Superior; step-children, Alex and Gracie Gibson of Superior and Anya Curry of Lake Charles; girlfriend, Jessica DeGrio and her mother and father, Sheri and Jeffrey Brantley, Superior; mother, Marjorie (Harry) Galt, Superior; father, Terrence (Catalina) Herman, Sr. of Fort Totten, N.D.; grandparents, Judy Shupe of Poplar and Estelle and John Hennager of Minnewauken, N.D.; siblings, Terrence (April) Herman of Duluth, Chaz (Adam) Herman and Jacob Galt of Superior, Ryan, Terrence Jr. and Chanze Herman of Fort Totten, N.D.; step-siblings, Waylon and Leland Red Tomahawk and Christina Herman of Fort Totten, N.D.; uncles and aunts, Joe (Carol) Herman, Shirley Red Road, Linda Herman and Patty Shaw of Fort Totten, N.D., Marcleine St. Pierre, Grand Forks, N.D., Lucy (Dave) Richards of Holmen, Wis., Jody (Mike) Frank of South Range; cousins, Marissa Holtz of Grand Forks, N.D., Jesse (Casey) Jeffers, Karina Richards, Martin Jr., Missy and Shirley Little, Tawney and Raven Culbertson of Fort Totten, N.D.; nephews, Nathaniel Herman of Duluth, Derrick, Aiden, Ryan Jr., Carson, Kieran Herman of Fort Totten, N.D.; nieces, Sam and Jessica Bull of Duluth, Isabella and Anastascia Herman of Duluth, Alanya, Lulu, Cierra, Avery and Madison Herman of Fort Totten, N.D.; and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins too many to mention.
Visitation will be from 12 Noon until the 1 p.m. service Saturday, Feb. 23 at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior.
Committal prayers will be at Veterans Memorial Park in Greenwood Cemetery, Superior, with military rites accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post No. 435. The Patriot Guard will be in attendance.
