Northwestern’s Amber second at state ski meet

Northwestern High School senior Olivia Amber competed in the Wisconsin High School Nordic Ski Championships at the Northwood Ski Trails near Rhinelander recently.

Amber won the 6-kilometer skate race by about 13 seconds and took third in the 6-kilometer classic race to take second in the overall pursuit.

“With really tough snow conditions and not having her sister to ski with this year, it was good to see her have a good race at state,” said Paul Amber, Olivia’s father.

Nicolette Amber, a 2012 graduate of Northwestern High School, is in her freshman year skiing for Middlebury College in Vermont. Olivia Amber will also continue competitive skiing at the collegiate level next year. She has committed to Colby College in Maine.

In March, Amber will serve as a member of the Midwest Junior National Team. She will compete with the best skiers in the nation in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Amber is seeking sponsors to help pay the costs of the trip. Those interested in making a donation can contact the Amber at 715-374-3364 or via mail at 7215 County Road S, Lake Nebagamon, WI 54849.
