Get out and vote

Voters in Douglas County head to the polls today to narrow the field of candidates in the state Supreme Court and a variety of local, nonpartisan races including the Superior School Board and 4th and 6th District City Council races.

Three candidates are vying for the Justice seat held by Patience “Pat” Roggensack. Vince Menga of Menomonie Falls and Ed Fallone of White Fish Bay are challenging the incumbent.

Five candidates — incumbents Patrick Dorin and Christina Kintop as well as challengers James Farkas, Michael Raunio and Steve Stupak — are contending for four spots on the April 2 ballot for Superior School Board.

Larry Johnson, Mark Johnson and Jack Sweeney have all stepped forward for a chance to serve residents of the 4th District; and Terry Massoglia, Kimberly Collins and Peter Moeri are making a bid for the 6th District seat. The top two vote-getters in each race will be on the ballot in April.

Polls open at 7 a.m. and remain open until 8 p.m.

Rural residents of Douglas County continue to cast ballots at their usual polling locations. Residents living in the villages cast their votes in their community — at the Lake Nebagamon Auditorium, village halls in Oliver, Poplar and Superior, and Solon Springs Community Center.

Polling locations are at town halls in most rural communities except in Maple and Oakland. Ballots are cast at the community center in Maple and at the fire hall/town garage in Oakland.

Voters in the 2nd and 4th districts cast their ballots at Zion Lutheran Church, 2022 E. Second St.; and voters in the 6th and 10th districts vote at the Salvation Army, 916 Hughitt Ave. Voters in the 5th and 7th districts cast ballots at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College, 600 N. 21st St.; 8th and 9th districts at Billings Park Civic Center; and 1st and 3rd districts at the Richard Bong Memorial Airport, 4804 Hammond Ave.
