Duluth: LeAnn House and Bill Bastian, music faculty members at the College of St. Scholastica, discuss the song cycle “Winterreise,” at 3:40 p.m. in Room 3625 of Tower Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.

Ashland: The Book Across the Bay spaghetti feed runs 4-8:15 p.m. at the late registration tent at the marina with entertainment by the Ashland High School Lake Effect Show Choir. Tickets are $8 for adults; $6 for children 12 and younger.

Superior: Zion Lutheran Church, 2202 E. Second St., hosts a dessert theater presentation of “Don’t Kick the Turkeys” by Andy and Jennifer Hansen at 7 p.m. today, and Feb. 22-23; and 2 p.m. Sunday and Feb. 24. Admission is $10 per person, two-thirds of the proceeds goes to the Center Against Sexual and Domestic Abuse and Faith United Methodist’s food pantry.

Superior: The vocal group Showstoppers presents concerts for CASDA at 7 p.m. today and Saturday at United Presbyterian Church, 229 N 28th St. The local group sings love songs ranging from jazz standards to contemporary pop. Tickets are $8 and available at the door. Call 715-392-4751, ext. 11.

Saturday

Superior: St. Francis Xavier Church, 2316 E. Fourth St., hosts its salad bar luncheon starting at noon. Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 6-12, and children 5 and younger eat free. There will be door prizes and raffle prizes.

Solon Springs: Solon Springs Lions Ice Fishing Contest runs noon to 4 p.m. on the north end of Upper St. Croix Lake. Tickets are $5 for three holes. The events features door prizes, food and refreshments on the ice, a vintage snowmobile show and swap meet. Free admission, entry.

Duluth: The Twin Ports Choral Project, a vocal chamber ensemble based in the Duluth area, performs “Horizons: Songs of War, Peace and Freedom” at 7:30 p.m. in Mitchell Auditorium at the College of St. Scholastica. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for St. Scholastica staff, and free for St. Scholastica students and sisters of the monastery.

Duluth: Tamarack Dance Association presents Another Third Saturday Dance Community Barn Dance at 7:30 p.m. at the Avalon, 404 W Superior St. Music by Critter du Jour, with Terrence calling the dances. Superior: Sunday Dance at the Superior Moose Lodge runs 2-5 p.m. Music by the Hendershots and the wonderful George McClellon on steel guitar. Admission is $5 and everyone is welcome.

Superior: The Bong Center’s complementary Cold War Film Series continues with Paul Newman in “The Rack” (1956). This American war drama tells the story of Captain Edward Hall, who has returned to the U.S. after spending two years in a prison camp during the Korean War. “The Rack” begins at 1:30 p.m. in the Pearl Harbor Theatre. Duluth: Vietnam veteran Pat Shaw, a photographer aboard the USS Hornet as it recovered the astronauts from Apollo 11 and 12, the first two missions to land on the moon, presents History in a Pint at 6 p.m. at Carmody Irish Pub & Brewing. Superior: A Ruby’s Pantry food distribution takes place at Christ Lutheran Church, 320 N. 28th St. E. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with distribution starting about 5 p.m. There are no income or residence guidelines. For a $15 donation, people receive a large amount of food. Bring bags, boxes or baskets to carry the food.

Duluth: The Mental Health Support Group meets 5-7 p.m. at Miller Dwan Medical Center, 502 E. Second St., meeting rooms 1-3, lobby level, eastside near the auditorium.
