Superior's Long advances to sectional wrestling meet

Nicholas Long was the only Superior High School wrestler to advance to next weekend’s WIAA sectional wrestling meet in Marshfield.

Long improved to 30-7 on the season with a fourth-place finish in the 106-pound weight class at Saturday’s regional meet at New Richmond.

Long defeated Dalton Hutton of Chippewa Falls, lost to Joey Ford of Menomonie, pinned Garrett Hildebrandt of New Richmond and defeat Sam Burns of River Falls in the fourth-place match.

Superior finished in eighth place as a team with 25 points. Menomonie won the team title with 240 points.

The top two wrestlers in each weight division at the sectional tournament advance to the state tournament.
