Superior: The Superior Public Library Board meets at 4 p.m. in the Board Room, 1530 Tower Ave., to discuss a proposal to approve the Superior Public Library 2013-2017 Strategic Plan. The meeting is public.

Duluth: “Cariboo Magi,” an award-winning comedy, opens at 7:30 p.m. today, Saturday, and Feb. 15 and 16, and 2 p.m. Sunday, and Feb. 17 in the St. Scholastica Theatre, directly behind Tower Hall. Poplar: Sharing One’s Surplus food share takes place at Mission Covenant Church, 5161 S. County Road P. Shares are sold 8-9:30 a.m. with distribution at 10 a.m. A $25 cash-only donation gets you two tubs of food. Everyone is welcome. Call 715-364-2738.

Superior: The Lake Superior Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution meets at 10:30 a.m. at the Superior Public Library.

Duluth: Arthur’s Formal Wear and KDWZ announce the second annual Prom Showcase at Clyde Iron Works starting at 6 p.m. It features information on everything needed for prom 2013, games, interactive displays, and concludes with a runway fashion show. Superior: Eagles Auxiliary hosts a card party 1-3 p.m. at 1710 N. 12th St. The cost is $4 and lunch is provided. Prizes are given throughout the day. Proceeds benefit local charities.

Duluth: Lake Superior Writers present area writers sharing their work at Beaner’s Central, 324 N. Central Ave., 1-3 p.m. Featured readers include Cal Benson, Gary Boelhower, Phil Fitzpatrick, Theresa O’Halloran Johnson, Kat Manderville, Liz Minette, Mark Munger, Sheila Packa, Yvonne Rutford and more. Duluth: The Lake Superior Ragtime Society presents a “Frigid Frolics” concert 1:30-4:30 p.m. at First Covenant Church, 2101 W. Second St. Featured at the event will be the “Frigid Frolics Rag” composed by Alvin Marx in 1905 in Superior. The concert is free but donations are appreciated.

Superior: A Ruby’s Pantry food distribution takes place at Zion Lutheran Church, 2022 E. Second St. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with distribution around 5 p.m. There are no income or residence guidelines. For a $15 donation, people receive a large amount of food. Visitors are asked to bring bags, boxes or baskets to carry the food.

Duluth: The Duluth Audubon Society hosts Gull Watching at Canal Park in Winter with Erik Bruhnke at 7:45 a.m. Meet across from the Dewitt-Seitz Building in the Canal Park main parking lot.

Superior: The 1960 class of Superior East High School holds a lunch get together at noon at the Superior Perkins, 103 E. Second St. All classmates, spouses and friends welcome.

Superior: The Superior W.O.W. club meets at 12:30 p.m. at the Upper Deck.

Superior: The Bong Book Club meets at 2 p.m. at the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center. Continuing from last month’s meeting, guest speaker Col. Ronald L. Brule: The Old-Brule Heritage Society meets at 6 p.m. at the Brule Town Hall. Jim Pellman talks about the evolution of the original town of Brule, which included the towns of Amnicon, Brule, Cloverland, Lakeside and village of Poplar. He will also talk about the mission of the Old-Brule Heritage Society and plans to move the old Monticello School to the site of the original Brule Town Hall on Highway 2 in Maple for use as a museum and archiving facility.
